Research real-world communities and populations
OneFlorida+’s diverse and aging population is representative of the America of tomorrow, giving researchers a unique opportunity to analyze the nation’s most pressing health concerns in a variety of real-world communities and populations that extend past the typical academic health center setting with restricted patient populations.
Research Expertise
In line with initiatives set by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and other national health agencies on the forefront of our nation’s health research efforts, the consortium has identified cardiovascular health, cancer control, child and adolescent health, and the learning health system as areas of particular interest.
OneFlorida+ Area of Interest
Cardiovascular Health
Residents in the southeastern United States consistently name high blood pressure as a top health concern, and clinicians routinely identify this condition as a critical issue for their patients. In its mission to improve cardiovascular health, the OneFlorida+ Clinical Research Network leverages the aging and diverse population of Florida and people living in Atlanta, Georgia and Birmingham, Alabama to help researchers pinpoint best practices in the treatment of heart disease.

OneFlorida+ Area of Interest
Cancer Control & Prevention
Today, there are more than one million cancer diagnoses in the United States each year, according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), with rates estimated to increase to more that two million in 2024. With a commitment to address the nation’s top health concerns, OneFlorida+ is leading a statewide initiative to better understand the differences among specific populations defined by age, sex, race/ethnicity, geographic location, and other categories to reduce the number of cancer diagnoses and improve treatment for those currently living with the disease.

OneFlorida+ Area of Interest
Child & Adolescent Health
The OneFlorida+ Clinical Research Network leads a statewide effort in improving the health and wellness of Florida's children. Building upon a long history of expertise in a variety of pediatric health research initiatives, the network leverages electronic health care data from millions of children in Florida to help researchers investigate the quality of children's health care throughout the state.

OneFlorida+ Area of Interest
The Learning Health System
A learning health system leverages science, informatics, incentives, and culture for continuous health care improvement and innovation, with best practices seamlessly embedded in the delivery process and new knowledge captured as an integral by-product of the health care delivery experience. With a network of stakeholders across the health care delivery spectrum, the OneFlorida Clinical Research Network follows the learning health system model in its efforts to improve health across the southeastern United States and the nation.
