Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside (i2b2)

The OneFlorida+ Data Trust houses electronic health records and other data from across OneFlorida+’s partner sites, providing scientists and clinicians with a rich repository of healthcare data and a powerful tool for research. This secure, clinical data warehouse aggregates data from OneFlorida+’s clinical and administrative information systems. OneFlorida+ i2b2 cohort discovery tool provides access to a curated dataset of 26 million patient records that date back to 2012. OneFlorida+ i2b2 data is refreshed quarterly after PCORI data characterization.

OneFlorida+ i2b2 houses patient demographics, enrollment data, dispensing data, vitals, conditions, encounters, diagnosis, procedures, lab results, prescribing data, death data, clinical observations and medication administration for all OneFlorida+ partners.

The OneFlorida+ i2b2 research tool provides a quick and easy way for researchers to access and query the IDR directly for cohort discovery and prep-to-research. Using the i2b2 tool, researchers can identify patient populations and the occurrence of incidents over time:  How many patients with hypertension are in our catchment area? How many have particular complications? How many have tissue in our biorepository? I2b2 queries provide researchers with limited datasets that give an estimate of the number of patients that match the search criteria without revealing patient identifiers.

Please note, the date ranges in i2b2 are reflected at the top banner of OneFlorida+ i2b2 .

i2b2 Query Examples

Search criteria can include patient demographics, ICD coded diagnoses, CPT and HCPCS-coded procedures.

Accessing the patient-level dataset

If you find that you want to explore the cohort on an individual level and want to obtain a limited dataset, please complete a research application here.

You can upload your specific query search to the research application.  Please allow at least three weeks for approval and a letter of support after you submit your materials.  The application will undergo administrative and scientific review to provide an estimate for services, feasibility assessments, a letter of support, and a letter of approval.

To obtain a limited dataset using the OneFlorida+ i2b2 research tool, researchers must be affiliated with one of our partner sites.

Next Steps | Requesting Patient-Level Datasets

To request a patient-level dataset please do the following:

  1. Save your query report to submit with your research application.
  2. Complete a research application
  3. You will receive an email confirmation of your submission.
