Exposome Data Now Available in OneFlorida+ Data Trust

The OneFlorida+ Data Trust now offers exposome data — integrated and harmonized state-of-the-art data on the natural, built and social environments with high spatiotemporal resolution for more precise measurement and greater accuracy. Available data include air pollution, climate, noise, food access, green space, walkability, neighborhood socioeconomic status, housing, vacant land, social capital, crime and safety.  Many of these variables are contextual-level social determinants of health.

Exposome data has a broad range of applications in health research. In addition to environmental and social epidemiological studies, many of the variables can be used in social determinants of health research and as covariates to control for confounding.

Unlike other exposome data catalogs that provide annual data at the county level, many factors in the OneFlorida+ exposome dataset have daily to quarterly temporal resolution and sub-county spatial resolution (for example ‘tract,’ and ‘block group’) to enable more accurate exposure estimates.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, genetics accounts for only 10% of all human diseases. The remaining 90% of diseases are caused by environmental stressors and gene-environment interactions. Exposomics, a relatively new field of study, involves understanding how exposures from our environment, diet, lifestyle and other external stressors interact with our own unique characteristics (genetics, physiology and epigenetics) and impact our health.

Need help with the exposome data? OneFlorida support services include

  • Consultation on the selection of exposome factors and their corresponding spatiotemporal windows
  • Spatiotemporal data linkages
  • Statistical support for exposome-health studies
