OneFlorida Launches i2b2 Cohort Discovery Tool

The OneFlorida i2b2 cohort discovery tool is now available on the OneFlorida website. The tool provides consortium researchers with a secure, fast and simple way to access some 15 million patient records and other statewide health care data for cohort discovery and prep-to-research.

“Now, researchers can easily identify patient populations and the occurrence of incidents over time, such as the number of patients with hypertension in the researcher’s health system,” said TaJuana Chisholm, assistant director of operations for the OneFlorida Clinical Research Consortium. The i2b2 queries provide researchers with aggregate counts that give an estimate of the number of patients that match the search criteria without revealing patient identifiers.

The OneFlorida Data Trust, a secure, clinical data warehouse, aggregates data from OneFlorida’s clinical and administrative information systems dating back to 2012. The Data Trust houses patient demographics, enrollment data, dispensing data, vitals, conditions, encounters, diagnoses, procedures, lab results, prescribing data, death data, clinical observations and medication administration for UF Health, Capital Health Plan, Florida Medicaid, AdventHealth (formerly Florida Hospital), Nicklaus Children’s, Orlando Health, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare and University of Miami Health. The data is refreshed quarterly after PCORI data characterization.

The i2b2 cohort discovery tool can be found under the Services’ tab on the OneFlorida website. Additional resources are available for researchers who need help setting up their search or accessing the patient-level dataset.
